My name is Gina. I grew up in the small island town of Boca Grande and attended Lemon Bay High School. That's where I played three sports, most importantly basketball, and was voted most artistic my senior year. I left my home town in 1999, shortly after my High School graduation for Gainesville Florida. Home of the GATORS.
I had always dreamed of being a doctor but math was not my strong suit in college. So I reconsidered. Forced to choose a major I was feeling the pressure but wanted a skill set that would set me apart from the general public. My friend asked me, "when you were young around 3-6 years old what did you do for fun? What did your mom find you doing when you were in your room playing?" It dawned on me that all I could ever remember was drawing, and painting. I would always draw pictures for my family. Which in my mind at that age were masterpieces but more like stick figures. I decided to try my luck in Fine Arts, but starving artist I did not want to be so I did some more research and found that Graphic Designing could be my ticket.
My art classes started in the Fall semester. WARP (writing, art, research and projects) was my first of many 3 hour classes that met 2-3 times a week, plus all the general classes. I enrolled in a bit of everything from ceramics, oil painting, screen printing, typography to computer illustration. While most students carried book bags I carried a tool box, full of art supplies.
I graduated in 2003 with my BFA in Graphic Design and started as a part time Junior Graphic Designer for Premier Productions. The rest of the time I worked as server, which is where the money really was at the time. Server eventually turned into the restaurants Graphic Designer and Merchandise Manager, my title seemed to change every week. Then suddenly almost as fast as I could blink, I was "old" for the college town I loved so much and decided it was time to move on. I set my sights on Orlando Florida in 2005, enrolled in Graduate School, and took my place in the rat race of Corporate America.
I've worked in sales, human resources, PR and consulting.I freelance and paint for my "creative fix." I truly love to design and paint, and though it is hard to do at times, it's always easier for me to push through creative blocks and produce a piece of work that I can be proud to call mine. It is my outlet when work and life get a little crazy. |
